The Week in Review

I was so astonished at the kind words you ladies left me on a previous post! Thanks so much for your thoughts!

This past week was quite exciting. Last Saturday we finally got our front yard bark mulched, a process that has taken about 3 weeks. Wednesday night Chris had a Court of Honor for one of the boys he's been working with in scouts. This kiddo has really come a long way since Chris was called, and is definitely on the path towards getting his Eagle. I was asked to attend the Cub Scout's Pack Meeting. It was a ton of fun, and the kids got to go play in an obstacle course! It was so much fun watching them =D. Thursday I met with a marketing guy here in town to help me decide how to start marketing my Preschool. He had a great idea, about going door to door here in my neighborhood talking about my Preschool and it's uniqueness/advantages. One of the things I have going for me is that we live in Hucrest, which is the most coveted neighborhood in Roseburg, and we live literally half a block from the Elementary school, which is the best Elementary school in town. He was thinking that I could really market my location, since I pretty much have a Monopoly here in Hucrest. He also suggested making some cute shirts (he didn't quite use that terminology =D) to wear while I go door to door, and also while I'm at upcoming YW and Scout camps. I thought that was pretty smart =D.

Chris and I are preparing for a scouting camp called Wood Badge. It's a weeklong camp for Scout leaders that helps them become better leaders and people. I'm very excited about it! The General Young Men's President of the Church gave a talk about how everyone who works in Scouts has to go to this camp. He said that it changed his life! Needless to say, I can't wait to see what's in store at a camp that changed a General Authority's life.

This past week also brought my very-first-in-my-whole-life 4 mile run!!! It was exhilarating!! I couldn't believe how far I've come in the short while I've been running. I'm still not at the point where I just can't wait to go out an run, but I can definitely tell that it's made me feel better! This upcoming Saturday is our first 5 mile race. It is called the Moonlight Run. Here's a link: http://www.moonlightfive.com/ It's a run that starts at 9:30 at night, and the whole pathway is lit with different LED lights and lamps. We are so excited!

Well, lots to look forward to this week...and right now we are headed out the door to play games and eat with some friends of ours! Until next week..

Life Update

Man, what a crazy time we've had! I see that I haven't posted anything since October, and I'm positive no one looks at this but it is good journaling for me! I guess I'll just start with what we have each individually been doing and then what we are doing together.

Chris:
Chris is still working at Absolute Audio-Video here in Roseburg, OR. He's still really liking it and I'm glad! Sometimes we talk about what else he could be doing, and I don't think he is quite settled down to a life here in Oregon, but everyday our roots grow longer. He is still working with the Teachers in the ward, and really enjoys it! He is getting used to all the scouting lingo, and is enjoying helping his boys get closer to earning their Eagle Award. He works A TON but we are crossing our fingers that it will pay off in the end.

Me:
I am still finishing up my last 2 BYU classes. I'm about 1/3 of the way done with New Testament. It has been fun, but it's so hard to do online classes. But, it will be worth it in the end! At least, that's what I keep telling myself =D. The job market here for me is about as bleak as could be. You have to have a Master's to teach, and as much as I love getting education, I just don't feel the call to go back to school. Also, the local school have just fired people who have been working there for 15+ years because there's not enough money. Needless to say, there's no way. However, as I'm learning in my life, when one door closes another door opens. I've decided to open up a Preschool! "But wait Aubrey, didn't you just get your degree in teaching High School?" Why yes, but I've discovered I adore preschool aged kids. I got called to work in the Primary when we first moved here and have loved teaching the 3-5 year olds. Moreso than I loved my student teaching at the High School. As I look back on my schooling, There were classes I took when we studied that age group and I knew I loved them then. For some reason, my thick skull didn't realize it. But! Now it does =D Erego, I'm thrilled to start teaching Preschool!

Together:
Chris and I started running/biking together. We already ran my very first 5k and although I was getting passed by walkers (our time was 52 min) I had a blast and caught the running bug! Now I'm running three miles in the morning, we have our first 4 mile run tomorrow morning, and we're signed up for a 5 miler in under 2 weeks! I cannot wait and it has been so much fun!
This past week marked 1 year since we moved to Oregon. We LOVE our ward, neighbors, and area. We're starting to make some friends and things are looking up.
The middle of March marked 1 year since we began trying to have children. As I write this I stop and pause at the emotional roller coaster this challenge has created. For months I would sit and cry for hours, asking how could I have been given a challenge so difficult, when all I've ever wanted was to be a mom. How could Heavenly Father possibly believe I would have enough strength to endure this trial. Doesn't He know it would break my heart? As the weeks rolled by with me never moving from my spot on the couch I began to sink deeper and deeper. How could He give me a calling where every week I would endure everybody else's beautiful gifts smiling at me and hugging me, just to go home to a childless house. To say that this past year has been difficult in this area would be a huge understatement. Even now, tears fall as I think about it. However, a few months ago I realized I was being dumb. I needed to get outside myself and my questions and have hope and trust in Timing. Timing that gives us an opportunity to pay off student loans. Timing that allows me to serve others. Timing that opens up a Preschool. Timing that gives Chris and I an unbreakable relationship. Timing that shows that I can pass through a trial even as great as this. I'm not perfect, and I still get sad sometimes, but boy! am I a lot happier than I've been in a while. I wish I could say that this new-found confidence in the Lord has resulted in a pregnancy but it hasn't. But the difference this time is that I am okay. I will love others, love their children I serve, and show the Lord that I too can be a profitable servant.

Well, I think that about sums up our lives at the moment. I'm excited to start blogging again, and recording the experiences and thoughts that come to us!
