sorry I've been such a loser lately and haven't updated what's been going on in our lives.
I've been teaching at Roseburg High, going on my 5th week next week. Wow, has time flown. I've had so many crazy stories these past couple weeks! Karen (my mentor teacher) let me jump right into teaching the first day. She has been there and guiding me, but has given me a ton of autonomy to do what I want. It's been nice! Some things have gone really well, and others not so much. But it has been a huge learning experience for sure. I really love teaching my Freshman. They are so much fun and I'm feeling like I have a lot of really good relationships with them. My Seniors are a little more difficult to teach. They're pretty cynical and think they know everything. That's made it a little hard to connect with them, but I feel some relationships starting to bud. I really miss talking with Emily, and hearing all of her advice! I've really tried to be the same kind of teacher she was for me, and I think I'm doing her a small amount of justice =D My mentor teacher commented on how she has a lot to learn from me about having a relationship with the students. When she said that, immediately I thought about Emily. I thought, man if only I can be half the teacher she is, then you could really learn about having relationships with students. Then I think about Cougar...if I could just tell stories as well as he did than I could make a difference with my students! I could invigorate them! I could give them the motivation to make changes! If I could be half the teacher as Cougar then I could really change some lives. Anyways....enough about school =D
Things with Chris and I have been wonderful! We've been loving being here in Roseburg. Our garden has been growing nicely, we've made some friends, and are finally having our long awaited garage sale this Saturday! We love our ward family. They truly feel like family. It's been really nice!
Well, I'm headed to bed. I've got to teach about drunk driving and texting and driving tomorrow to my seniors. Here's crossing my fingers that I can pull a little bit of Emily and Cougar out of my back pocket!
